Delta Gamma

Chapter History

For Hope, For Strength, For Life

Delta Gamma at Florida State University is recognized as one of the largest and strongest chapters on campus. The Gamma Mu chapter was first established in 1951 with only 16 charter members. Since then, we have grown and currently have over 260 active members. Our chapter has evolved into a strong network of diverse and accomplished women who foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, and maintain good academic standing.

Delta Gamma has a strong tradition of sisterhood and community service. Our founders, Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd and Mary Comfort Leonard, chose the Greek letters Delta and Gamma to represent their goal to “Do Good”. This remains Delta Gamma’s motto and purpose of our organization. Our chapter is proud to announce that we have had a successful year of doing good by raising over $42,000 for Service for Sight. Service for Sight is our chapter’s official philanthropy that provides resources and advocates for the visually impaired and blind community. In addition to supporting our own philanthropy, chapter members also participate in other philanthropic, academic, and athletic organizations on campus. Community involvement, philanthropic efforts, and authentic sisterhood are just a few ways that we continue our founders’ legacy of doing good.
